Frequently asked questions
Are Steel Heavens swords real steel?
Steel Heavens swords, knives, and axes are made with real blade steels such as high carbon steel, Damascus steel, D2 steel, and stainless steel. Product materials and construction vary by item, so customers should review the specifications on each product page before ordering.
What is Damascus steel?
Damascus steel is pattern-welded steel made by layering and forge-welding different steels to create a visible pattern. Our Damascus construction may vary by product, but many of our Damascus blades use layered carbon steels and high carbon 1095 steel. Product pages should be reviewed for product-specific materials and details. Damascus patterns naturally vary, and Damascus blades should be cleaned, dried, and lightly oiled like other carbon steel products.
Our Damascus steel is typically made through the following method:
- 6 pieces of carbon steel #43 and #40
- 5 pieces of high carbon steel 1095
- 1st fold: 11 x 2 = 22 layers
- 2nd fold: 22 x 2 = 44 layers
- 3rd fold: 44 x 2 = 88 layers
- 4th fold: 88 x 2 = 176 layers
- 5th fold: 176 x 2 = 352 layers
